“The yard is making a comeback after a few tornadoes and damage from tree removals,” my father recently texted me with a few photos from back home. “Seeing the physostigia growing thickly like this always reminds me of the joy I had watching you when you were very, very, little walking behind a planting of some in our old yard. Occasionally the very top of your head would bob up and down as you walked and would give us only the slightest glimpse of where you were. You always enjoyed being outside. Thanks for the heartwarming memory!”
It’s pleasing for me to remember too. Living in an apartment now, I greatly miss being out in the yard. I've tried growing herbs and tomatoes inside but without success despite keeping more than a dozen other plants alive. While there are community gardens, no plots have been available near me. I'd really love to have just a few square feet somewhere.
