The Washington Monument has reopened but I skipped that line for the Washington Memorial in Alexandria, VA instead. Appropriately modeled after the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria, Egypt, the neoclassical temple towers over Old Town with views that rival its better-known counterpart in Washington, DC. In addition to serving as a meeting space for area lodges, the George Washington Masonic Memorial functions as a sort of reliquary and archive like Tudor Place across the river. Inside there, visitors can find kitchen chairs from Mt. Vernon, one of General Washington's bibles, and a clock from his bed chamber.
